Abdulrahman Jawahery, President
Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC)

Distinguished Guests
Ladies and Gentlemen

On behalf of the GPIC employees, our board of directors, shareholders, business partners, and the people of the Kingdom of Bahrain, I am truly honoured and privileged to receive the “Category 2” Robert W. Campbell Award.

GPIC is a small petrochemical and fertilizer producing company that strives to achieve EXCELLENCE in every aspect of its operations and production with a particular emphasis on safety, health and environmental management systems. Our accomplishments are attributed to our willingness to learn and benefit from the experiences of other organisations - all over the world - that excel in their business activities.

For GPIC, winning the prestigious Robert W. Campbell Award is testimony that size does not matter. It is in fact the combination of strong commitment and determination - coupled with a broad range of initiatives that instill SHE values - which become the modus operandi for the workplace, regardless of the size of the workforce. This award will only strengthen our resolve at GPIC to make our industry safer and our world a better place.

I sincerely thank the National Safety Council, the Robert W. Campbell Award executive committee; the Panel of Reviewers; and the Global Partners for bestowing this prestigious honour on GPIC. We highly appreciate the safety, health, and business professionals who share their expertise through the Award. They enable companies like GPIC to learn from their experiences and establish a highly-integrated SHE management system that is worthy of this prestigious accolade. Their critical and objective evaluations of GPIC’s case and the on-site assessments made our organisation stronger, and the final decision to award GPIC makes us more determined to continue excelling in the field of safety, health and environment.

GPIC is fortunate to receive the unlimited support and encouragement of its leadership, including the Chairman, Board of Directors and Bahraini parliamentarians. Our employees and business partners take ownership of GPIC’s SHE management system and make it part of their culture and way of life. Without them, I would not be standing before you today.

Finally, I would like to dedicate this award to His Majesty the King of Bahrain, Shaikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the Government of Bahrain. Our modern and democratic framework has not only propelled Bahrain to lead the Middle East region in industrial and financial initiatives, but it has further enabled its people to demonstrate their calibre of professionalism internationally. Just as GPIC has achieved excellence by learning from others, through the Campbell Award, the people of GPIC will proudly inspire others to make a difference.

Thank you.
