The Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) has celebrated its achieving 25 million man-hours without a lost time accident in 2016.
Company Managing Director H.E. Mr. Ibrahim Al Musaiteer, its President, Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery, members of the Executive Management and representatives of the Labour Union were present at the ceremony.
Speaking on the occasion, the Managing Director said he was very pleased with the achievement and stressed it had become an example in Bahrain, the region and globally for the application of environmental as well as health and safety standards.
He said the Company's name is synonymous with quality, efficiency, health and safety and pointed out the achievement was the result of many years of work with the United States National Safety Council, the United Nations, the British Safety Council and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, along with other regional and international bodies.
The Managing Director said the achievement comes as a result of the flexibility of Company policies and strategies that align with the requirements of the petrochemical industry. He said this is all due to the Executive Management and Company employees who have worked to abide by the principles of safety at work and have concentrated on maintaining an outstanding record the Company is proud of. He thanked all in the Company and praised their dedication in contributing towards the accomplishment.
Dr. Jawahery said the achievement is testimony to the policies set in place by the Board of Directors, chaired by H.E. Dr. Ahmed Al Sharyan and the professionalism of the Management that has given priority matters of occupational safety and health and have integrated the best systems and international standards to build a sound workplace.
Dr. Jawahery said GPIC now has a unique track record in the field of safety and always takes the initiative to support conferences and events that contribute to awareness in the field. He said no effort has been spared to provide training opportunities to national cadres at home and abroad to help them consolidate a culture of safety at work.
He said the achievement confirms beyond any doubt that the approach of the Company’s Board and the Management as well its outstanding leadership in integrating the best systems of international standards was well thought of.
Dr. Jawahery said GPIC is committed to social responsibility and explained staff and their families have been contributing to raising awareness of its importance and to make it a habit in their daily lives. He said the Company is keen to implement a comprehensive Management System aimed at upgrading and continuously improving performance, increasing efficiency, profitability and productivity while reducing expenses.
He recalled the efforts of all of the Company's employees who continued to work diligently and faithfully and with dedication to maintain GPIC’s reputation.
Dr. Jawahery said GPIC continues its march of achievement at all levels a result of its commitment to strictly apply the highest international standards in the field of occupational health and safety as well as quality and by protecting the environment.
The President said the Company's plants and products are subject to scrutiny according to global standards and environmental systems, with an emphasis on occupational health and safety. He said the Company has won several awards and honours, which are testimony to its products and the efficiency of its systems. He said the diligence on training national cadres, both within and outside the Company to achieve sustainability required everyone to make more efforts and show even more commitment to help it achieve even better standards.
