Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) President Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery received Secretary General of the International Confederation of Arab Trade Unions (ICATU) Mr. Ghassan Ghosn and Chairman of the Executive Council of the Bahrain Free Labour Unions Federation Mr. Yaqoob Mohamed Yousif, along with members of the Executive Council of the Bahrain Free Labour Unions Federation.

Dr. Jawahery praised the role played by the General Federation of Arab Trade Unions in preserving the interests of workers, taking into account the interests of the Arab nation.

The visit came within the framework of GPIC’s commitment towards the rights of workers and its desire to deepen and develop their association. It was also in support of workers’ freedom to choose their representatives in an atmosphere of fair competition in the interest of stability and economic growth.

Dr. Jawahery stressed on the importance of continuing cooperation and coordination between Arab labour unions, aimed at improving workers' standing and the preservation of their rights. He recalled the courageous stand taken by the workers union during the extraordinary circumstances in Bahrain and their refusal to succumb to pressures to involve trade unions in political activities.

Dr. Jawahery also pledged to defend the rights of the working class without taking into account any party affiliation, ethnic or sectarian, and staying away from all political pressure.

Mr. Ghosn thanked Dr. Jawahery for the warm welcome and the hospitality and for the opportunity to learn about the modern dimensions in trade union cooperation. This includes co-ordination with the executive management. He stressed the cooperation between the company management and the trade union was vital for growth.

The delegation later visited the Company's plants and facilities where they learnt about the stages of manufacturing and export. They were briefed on the Company's environmental projects and about the attention given by the Company to the issues of the environment.

The visitors expressed deep gratitude and admiration for the diverse environmental and charitable initiatives set up by the company within the industrial complex.
