Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) President Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery has congratulated Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Second Deputy Chairman His Excellency Sheikh Isa bin Rashid Al Khalifa on the launch of his book on the memories of H.E. Sheikh Isa about the Gulf Football Cup (1970-2014).
Dr. Jawahery said H.E. Sheikh Isa is a well-known national figure and his contributions in the field of sports are well known within and outside Bahrain. Dr. Jawahery said he is also highly regarded for his poetry and literature among all categories of people.
He said everyone looks at H.E. Sheikh Isa in a spirit of sincere love and, since he is one of the most influential dignitaries in the community, he has a special position in the hearts of Bahrainis and Gulf Arabs, not only as a national leader but also as a genuine and humble human being.
Dr. Jawahery said he believed the book would be widely accepted due to H.E. Sheikh Isa’s vast experience of sporting events. He said the publication would be of great benefit to Bahrain’s future generations who would gain from his experience and attempt to emulate them.
Dr. Jawahery praised the guidance and patronage of His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty the King for Charity and Youth Affairs, head of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee in the publication of the book, which documents a golden era of football in the the Arab Gulf region.
It talks about the beginning of football as a sport in the region as well as experiences and challenges it faced. The book documents the important role played by the Gulf's leading sports personalities, who made all efforts for the launch of this competition, the most important and most famous in the entire Gulf region.
Dr. Jawahery also noted efforts of staff at the Information Office of HH Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, who, he said, were keen to collaborate, co-ordinate and assist the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and the Bahrain Olympic Committee. He said HH Sheikh Nasser keenly followed up on the progress and reaffirmed the support of the wise leadership.
The book was launched during a ceremony on January 16 under the auspices of HH Sheikh Nasser Bin Hamad Al Khalifa. Leading sports personalities, community leaders and guests from Arab and Gulf states, were present.
H.E. Sheikh Isa has been a poet and a sports lover since his early days. He began his association with football as a child and has since seen it develop and mature.
H.E. Sheikh Isa was born in Muharraq in the 50s but moved to Riffa later.
His fame has now travelled well beyond Bahrain’s borders and he is admired for his communication and diplomatic skills and his personality.
