Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) President Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery was honoured this week through the bestowal of the Order of the Star of Italy, Ordine della Stella d'Italia on behalf of the President of the Republic of Italy, His Excellency, President Sergio Mattarella.  This exceptional Presidential Decree was awarded during a private ceremony at GPIC Head Office by the Italian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain, H.E. Mr. Domenico Bellato and bestowed upon Dr. Jawahery for his encouragement and promotion of the relationships between Italy and the Kingdom of Bahrain over his 35 year career.

The Presidential Decree and badge awarded to Dr. Jawahery, bears the inscription Solidarietà Italiana and is exclusively granted to those foreign individuals on behalf of the Republic of Italy who preserve and promote the national prestige of the Italian nation.  Dr. Jawahery was deeply humbled and honoured to be presented with such an acclaimed award for his unwavering commitment to assuring sustainable cooperation and collaboration between the two countries.  Dr. Jawahery accepted the revered recognition on behalf of all of his colleagues and employees who he paid tribute to for their unreserved role in achieving this medal of honour. 

Dr. Jawahery expressed his profound thanks and appreciation to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, for their unlimited support and visionary leadership to the people of Bahrain and for enabling them to attain the highest levels of recognition within international forums and achieve the inspirational strategies set out for the 2030 vision.

Dr. Jawahery also expressed his heartfelt thanks and deep gratitude to the Italian President for this remarkable recognition given to foreign individuals on their role in fostering effective and sustainable relationships between the two nations.  Dr. Jawahery also spoke of, and affirmed how both countries continued to enjoy such a prosperous collaboration, from economic partnerships and business solutions, through to arts and entertainment and long standing friendships that so many GPIC employees, and Dr. Jawahery have fostered over the years. .He further added that, although this highly respected medal is only bestowed upon individuals, it was through the visionary partnerships and relationships that had been created over the years, which has allowed for this humbling moment.

Dr. Jawahery expressed his deep gratitude to GPIC’s Chairman, its Board of Directors, Executive Management Team and Labour Union as well as each and every employee at GPIC for their warm support and the strong relationships they have fostered with the Republic of Italy over so many years.  He emphasized how, through everyone’s focus and dedication to building effective relationships across companies, regions and continents, it had resulted in the receiving of this accolade.  He also deeply thanked the Italian Ambassador for this recognition and expressed his deep honour to be chosen for this acknowledgement from the President of the Republic of Italy.

The Ambassador thanked Dr. Jawahery and expressed how GPIC, under his leadership, had become one of the most respected and successful industrial companies in the region.  The Ambassador further iterated how Dr. Jawahery was a role model in his ability to lead by example and in his continued support for the effective and prosperous collaboration between Italy and the Kingdom of Bahrain


The Ordine della Stella d'Italia or Order of the Star of Italy was originally introduced in 1947 to commemorate and award those foreigners or expatriates who had added to the prosperity of Italy.  The Medal awarded and The Order is bestowed in three level by either the Decree of the President of the Republic, Head of the Order, or on the recommendation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Since its establishment in 1979, GPIC has attracted many Italian companies in the field of manufacturing technology, plant construction, equipment design, training and technical consulting.
