The Fertilizer’s Committee of the Gulf Petrochemical and Chemical Association (GPCA) met on the sidelines of the Ninth GPCA Conference in Muscat, Oman.

The meeting, presided over by Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) President Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery, discussed its achievements in the past and reviewed future strategic plans as well as preparations and arrangements for the annual fertilizer conference.

Dr. Jawahery, who is also committee Chairman, thanked GPCA Chairman H.E. Mr. Yousef bin Abdullah Al-Benyan for his support. He also appreciated the role of its Secretary General Dr. Abdul Wahab Al-Saadoun and the Committee Members for the success of the conference and said the organisers had made excellent arrangements.

He said the Committee would continue to work to adopt the best strategies to contribute to the developing performance at all levels and to benefit from successful international experiences. He spoke about the efforts of committee members to develop mechanisms of action and enhance communication.

He stressed on the importance of cooperation among all of the world’s nations to achieve the ultimate goal of ensuring food security as one of the most important challenges. He said despite the availability of natural and human resources and the interest of political leaders, agriculture in the Arab and the Middle East region had not yet achieved the targeted production to meet the increasing needs of food.

Speaking about the GPCA’s important role in supporting the fertilizer industry, Dr. Jawahery said it is one of the largest such entities in the region and contributes to promoting the exchange of best practices through workshops, seminars and conferences.

Dr. Jawahery expressed the hope that the meeting would come out with appropriate recommendations that would contribute to achieving higher goals. He appreciated the efforts of the committee in helping the GPCA achieve its goals and aspirations.

Established in 2006, the GPCA has as its members more than 90 per cent of the petrochemicals and chemicals producers in the region. It is the first of its kind in the Middle East and aims to enhance the role of companies and enable them to play a key role in the global chemical industry.

The GPCA is a respected representative body for the petrochemicals and chemicals sector in the region and plays a key role in formulating international and regional policies and fostering corporate interests and supporting them to achieve their aspirations. It also provides members with various platforms and channels to meet and communicate to share knowledge, ideas and experiences that will enhance their growth and prosperity.
