Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) employees took part in the National Sports Day at the Company complex on Tuesday (February 13).

The participation came as a result of the initiative of His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister and the directives of His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Personal Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity and Youth Affairs and to emphasize the importance of practicing sports in general and walking in particular.

Company President Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery initiative, which, he said, reaffirms the wise Leadership’s unlimited support of sport and their keenness to make it a lifestyle for all members of the society. He also stressed on the importance of exercise and its relevance to promoting public health.

Dr. Jawahery spoke of the importance of the role of sport in people’s lives and its impact on the development of society. He said all the nations had devised their own plans, programmes and strategies to celebrate sports.

He said the Company marked the day with programmes and activities, which aimed to achieve the objectives of this initiative. He said Bahrain had proved beyond any doubt that it is moving forward in achieving the goals of sustainable human development and building Bahraini citizens physically and mentally.

All of the Kingdom’s Ministries and private institutions have organised programmes and buses to mark the occasion. These include competitions, recreational programmes and educational seminars.

His Royal Highness the Prime Minister had last year designated the second Tuesday of February every year to be the Bahrain Sports Day.

GPIC is keen to support and encourage sport and provides a perfect environment for the development of the skills of staff by providing the modern equipment at the Company's club, besides qualified trainers and opportunities for participation.

The Company has a large number of employees who have excelled in different games. It also sponsors sports events, championships, clubs and unions, according to the directives of the board of directors.
