Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company Managing Director H.E. Mr. Ibrahim Mohammed Al-Musaitir has congratulated the Company Management on winning the prestigious Responsible Care Award for Health and Occupational Safety.

The Award was presented to GPIC during the recently held Gulf Petrochemical and Chemical Association (GPCA) Forum in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The Award, announced by a jury consisting of four of the region’s top industry figures, came as a result of GPIC’s commitment to leading and motivating responsible care in the Arabian Gulf region. It said GPIC fulfilled all legal requirements in the petrochemical sector, excelled in sustainability projects as well as improved performance while motivating others. It also praised the Company’s significant role in serving Bahraini society.

GPIC President Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery presented the Award to the Managing Director in recognition of his keenness to contribute to the Company's achievements. He praised the role of the Board of Directors, which gave attention to supporting issues of sustainability, community service and the importance of corporate responsibility to develop new patterns of interaction with local communities.

The Managing Director said the achievement is a source of pride for the Board and all employees. He said it was a joint effort in which everyone contributed their expertise and vision. He said the policies of the Executive Management in implementing directives of the board and accomplishing assigned tasks were equally responsible. He said he hoped the Company would move forward in achieving more success to maintain its leading position in Bahrain and the region.

The winners were selected from among 63 applicants in three categories - Best Company, Best Officer and Best Project. The Awards recognize companies and individuals who have distinguished themselves in the continuous improvement of environmental management, safety, health and industrial security, the main theme of the Responsible Care Programme adopted in 2009. It is a global voluntary initiative to reflect the commitment of companies that meet the highest health, safety and environment standards.

The GPCA was established in 2006 as an organization representing the region’s petrochemical sector with the aim of looking after the common interests of more than 240-member companies operating in the chemical production as well as supporting industries and services. These companies together account for more than 95 per cent of the total production of chemicals in the GCC. This is currently the second largest industrial sector in the region with an annual value of $115 billion.

The GPCA is keen to upgrade the sector by providing all possible means of support and activating communication between the concerned parties as well as leadership initiatives that provide constructive communication between member companies for the exchange of and continuous improvement of knowledge and expertise.

It is also a platform for all industry stakeholders in the region. It has six active committees focusing on sub-sectors such as plastics and fertilizers, supply chains, international trade, research and innovation and responsible care. The GPCA annually organizes six events worldwide and publishes specialized reports, studies and newsletters.
