Dr. Jawahery stresses the importance of the topic covered by the symposium, especially with the company's excellence in achieving sustainable development goals

During her participation in the virtual symposium organized by the Arab Fertilizer Association (AFA) in Sharm El Sheikh, Arab Republic of Egypt, Reem Al Bastaki, Environmental Engineer at Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company, presented an important working paper during which she discussed “The Role of Business in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”.

During the symposium held on 28 July 2021 entitled "Sustainability Leads the Future", Eng. Reem focused on the importance of aligning business with the Sustainable Development Goals. In the paper, she also reviewed how companies could integrate Sustainable Development Goals into their business making them a reality.

Engineer Reem also talked about best practice, including the experience of Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company in implementing 11 steps to making sustainable development goals a reality in the company.  

In a statement, Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery, President of Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company, commended the active participation of Eng. Reem Al Bastaki, in the AFA Symposium.  He added that the company is keen to provide every opportunity to its employees and especially female employees in seminars and workshops, both within the Kingdom of Bahrain and abroad.  He highlighted the company's pride in all employees and the role they play in serving the petrochemical industry and contributing to its development.

GPIC President said the topic of the working paper presented by Eng. Reem Al Bastaki was extremely important.  Eng. Reem discussed the company’s successful experience in integrating sustainable development goals into its business.  She continued that GPIC is a leading example in the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals into its business strategy, understanding the importance of these goals that were adopted by the international community in 2015, as part of a new global agenda on sustainable development.

Engineer Reem Al Bastaki expressed her thanks and appreciation for the great trust that Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery gives to all employees, as well as his interest in encouraging employees to take advantage of the various training opportunities provided by the company.  This is in addition to encouraging their ongoing participation in specialist seminars and conferences that raise an individual’s profile and allows them to gain more experience and knowledge.

Eng. Reem’s presentation of the company’s experience in implementing sustainable development goals was in the presence of many international leaders, such as the Chairperson of the Working Group on Achieving Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, the Chairperson of the Nexus Group for Sustainable Natural Resources of the Economic Commission for Europe, and the Chairperson and Member of the Board of Directors European Sustainable Phosphorous Platform (ESPP).

Reem Al Bastaki joined the Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company after obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering from Griffith University in Australia. In addition to her daily responsibilities, she actively participates in corporate social responsibility programs.  Here she works as a volunteer in providing environmental lectures and follows up on the environmental research program for schools, an initiative implemented by the company in cooperation with the Ministry of Education.  She also works on following up the Green Wave campaign implemented in cooperation with the United Nations Environment Program.
